AlphaTensor: The AI That's Mathing It Up ๐
DeepMind's latest model, AlphaTensor, is using reinforcement learning to improve the efficiency of matrix multiplication, a fundamental algorithm used in computing and almost every field of knowledge. AlphaTensor has turned the problem into a single-player game, in which the "board" is a 3D tensor and the player tries to find the optimal solution by modifying the tensor and zeroing out as many of its elements as possible. By doing so, AlphaTensor has found novel, efficient, and exact algorithms for matrix multiplication that outperform the current state-of-the-art.
